How do you know which type of Medicare coverage is right for you, and how can you find a Humana plan available in your area? Our Humana plan finder guide can help.

Medicare Plan Finder by Coverage Type
Plan Type What Your Coverage Can Do Find Plans
Medicare Advantage (Medicare Part C)

- One all-inclusive plan that covers your Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) benefits and prescription drug coverage

- Over 90% of Medicare Advantage plans cover benefits such as dental, hearing, hearing aids, vision, telehealth and/or fitness memberships like SilverSneakers1

Medicare Supplement (Medigap)

- One plan that fills some of your Part A and Part B "gaps," such as copays, coinsurance and deductibles

- No provider or hospital network restrictions

- Your plan is accepted by any doctor or provider who accepts Original Medicare

If you just want Medicare drug coverage, you can add a stand-alone prescription drug plan called a Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan (PDP).

You can compare Part D plans from insurance companies who offer plans where you live, which may include Humana Part D prescription drug plans.

Humana Medicare Advantage Plans

Medicare Advantage, or Medicare Part C, provides all the same benefits as Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) while also adding some coverage for things not found in Original Medicare.

In the case of Humana, those benefits can include coverage for routine dental care, over-the-counter health products and/or prescription drugs.

Humana offers four basic types of Medicare Advantage plans:

  • HMO (Health Maintenance Organization)
Humana HMO plans utilize a primary care physician to coordinate care within a network of participating providers and the plan may only be used within the network.

  • PPO (Preferred Provider Organization)
PPO plans utilize a network of participating providers for maximum savings while also allowing members to seek care outside of the network and still receive at least partial coverage with no need to obtain a referral. PPO and HMO are the two most common types of Medicare Advantage plans.

  • PFFS (Private Fee-For-Service)
These Humana plans allow you to visit any Medicare-approved provider who accepts the terms of the plan.

  • SNP (Special Needs Plans)
A Special Needs Plan is built around the specific needs of a patient with a particular health condition like diabetes, heart failure, lung disorders and more.

Humana Medicare Part D Plans

A Humana Medicare Part D plan provides coverage for prescription medications, which is an area not covered by Original Medicare.

Humana offers three Part D plans in most areas, each with its own monthly premium, annual deductible and list of covered drugs.

Humana Medicare Supplement Plans

Medicare Supplement, also called Medigap, works alongside your Original Medicare benefits by picking up the cost of some of Medicare out-of-pocket expenses like deductible, copayments and coinsurance.

Humana Medigap plan availability can vary by state, but there may be several Humana Medicare Supplement plans available where you live such as popular selections like Plan G, Plan N and Plan F

When to Enroll in Humana Medicare Plans

The time at which you may enroll in a Humana Medicare plan depends partly on the type of coverage that you choose.

It’s important to keep in mind that Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare Supplement plans are different. You can’t have each type of plan at the same time.

  • Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare Part D plans including the ones offered by Humana may be purchased during your Initial Enrollment Period. Your seven-month Medicare IEP begins three months before your 65th birthday, includes your birthday month and continues for three more months.

These plans may also be purchased during the Annual Enrollment Period, often called the fall Medicare Open Enrollment Period. This Medicare open enrollment period lasts from October 15 to December 7 each year.

You may potentially be eligible for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP), depending on your individual circumstances.

  • Humana Medicare Supplement plans may be purchased at any time during the year, but the best time to do so is during your Medigap Open Enrollment Period. Your Medigap OEP is a six-month period that begins the day you are enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B and at least 65 years old (in most states).

How to Use a Humana Medicare Plan

Humana has a large network of participating providers. Humana Medicare Advantage and Humana Medicare Part D plans can be used at doctors’ offices, hospitals, pharmacies and other health care facilities all over the U.S.

Humana Medicare Supplement plans do not utilize a network and can be used with any health care provider who accepts Medicare.
