Two options are available to seniors - an entirely free discount savings card and a monthly subscription service called GoodRX Gold. The latter can help you save more, but not everyone will need a subscription. 

GoodRX Discount Prescription Card

The GoodRX discount prescription card can help you save up to 80% on most prescription drugs. It's accepted at over 70,000 American pharmacies and includes discounts for every family member. You can even receive discounts on prescription pet medications. 

The discount card is completely free, and you don't have to register using a credit card. Once you receive the card, you can begin using it immediately, and it has no expiration date. 

GoodRX Gold Subscription

The GoodRX Gold Subscription costs $19.99 monthly for an individual plan or $19.99 monthly for a family plan. You can use the family plan for yourself plus five family members, including children, your spouse and pets. They offer a 30-day free trial before you commit.

Depending on how many prescriptions you fill each month, this plan could be well worth it. Under this health care savings plan, over 1,000 drugs cost less than $10, and licensed healthcare provider visits start at under $20. You'll also qualify for free home delivery on certain eligible medications and have access to more affordable online healthcare visits. 

Things to Consider Before Choosing GoodRX

Although this is an excellent choice for people looking for prescription savings, there are a few downsides to using either the discount prescription card or the GoodRX Gold subscription. 

For starters, savings can vary significantly between pharmacies. You should check with your preferred local or online pharmacy to understand your actual savings. Neither option from GoodRX can be used overseas, and the discount card shouldn't be considered an insurance replacement. Most people will have to get the paid monthly subscription service for maximum savings. 

How to Get a GoodRX Discount Card

Signing up for the GoodRX discount prescription card is simple. If you decide to go with the free option, there's no sign-up required. You can even search their website for medications and associated costs without putting in your information. You can choose text, email or print to receive the card. If you choose to receive the card via text or email, you must provide the necessary contact information. 

If you want to choose the subscription option, you can sign up on the company's website or mobile app. You'll automatically receive a free 30-day trial when you sign up but will have to pay the monthly fee after your trial. 

Signing up for the GoodRX Gold subscription is easy:

• Create a username and password for your online account
• Provide basic information about yourself, including your full legal name, birth date, and mailing address
• Add your credit or debit card information

You will be charged once your trial ends. However, you can cancel your membership anytime during the trial if you're not satisfied. If you cancel your subscription before the free trial ends, your card won't be charged. 

How Does the GoodRX App Work?

The GoodRX app is available on any smartphone. It isn't mandatory to use the app, as you can access most features online. However, the app is convenient and easy to navigate, so it's worth trying if you choose to use the GoodRX program.

Once you download the app to your phone, you can sign in using your information. Alternatively, you can choose the "skip for now" option to continue. However, you'll have limited access to the app's features if you don't create an account or sign in using an existing one.

Using the GoodRX mobile app, you can:
